Powerball Results 01/01/24: One winning ticket sold for $810 million Powerball jackpot

One winning ticket was sold in Michigan for Monday night’s estimated $810 million Powerball jackpot, lottery officials said.

The winning numbers in the Monday, January 1 drawing were white balls 12, 21, 42, 44, 49 and red Powerball 1. The Power Play® multiplier was 3X.

In all, 4 tickets across the country matched all five white balls to win a $1 million prize. Two tickets sold matched all five white balls but also had the Power Play option meaning the owner won $2 million.

There were also 42 tickets that won a $50,000 prize and 7 winning tickets sold across the country that won $150,000 by matching four numbers, the Powerball and Power play.

The total prize money of the smaller awards amounts to over $18.64 million.

The lucky winner will have to choose between taking the full value of the jackpot paid out over a 30-year annuity, or opting for a one-time lump cash sum of $408.9 million.

After federal taxes, the total values of the disbursement options would be about 510.3 million and 257.61 million.

The $810 million jackpot won Monday is the 5th largest in the game’s history. The biggest Powerball jackpot was $2.04 billion, won by someone in California, in November 2022.

Before Monday’s win, there had been 36 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner since Powerball’s Oct. 11, 2023 drawing, when least one lucky ticket matched all six numbers to win a grand prize worth $1.72 billion.

Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington D.C, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of a ticket hitting the jackpot are 292,201,338 to 1. Players have roughly a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to win at least $1 million.

To play Powerball, you pick six numbers: five numbers between one and 69 for the white balls; and one number between one and 26 for the red Powerball. Selecting all of them correctly gets you the jackpot.
